It’s been almost a year since we started this website and 2017 was quite a year. It was an exciting year with quite a bit of travel between our home state of New York and the North Carolina Coast, with a short journey to the state Utah as well. It had its ups and downs but if one thing was consistent it was Red Fish and Largemouths.
Then there was the drum from our Charter with Captain Joey Van Dyke of Outer Banks Fishing Charters which were on another level. With all of us setting our personal best drum that day. My biggest was 48″, Kevin’s was a 49 1/2″, and Taylor caught a monster 52″ dinosaur of a Red Drum.
It was also a year of first catches for Taylor and now she can check some species off her list. From left to right: Flounder, Atlantic Spadefish, Striped Bass, Bluefish, Croaker, Speckled Trout, Red Drum, Sea Mullet, Smooth Dogfish, Skate, Yellow Perch, Chain Pickerel .
I also had my year of first catches. In order left to right: Sheepshead, Bluefish, Black Drum, Sea Mullet, Red Fox, Red Drum, Striped Bass, Croaker, Skate.
We also got to meet up with some old friends and made some new ones along the way. If this year had a theme to it, it had to be people. Meeting new, interesting and passionate people and seeing good friends’ passions come to life.
With Tarpon and Elk already on my mind who knows where 2018 will take us, but I’m sure no matter where we end up it will be an adventure. And for all of you reading I hope you pursue your passions and dreams and take the ugly and beauty that comes with the journey of the new year ahead.
